Metaphor in Illustration — Learn how to use illustration as a creative tool to create unique and practical ideas
One of the biggest challenges for businesses large and small is the need to command attention uniquely. It is more important now than ever to develop trust and connect with your audience in a personal way. There is an inherent need to solve complex problems simply; metaphors are ideal tools to do so. Metaphors can be playful, direct, and, if used correctly, can deliver an idea effectively. Most importantly, they also offer a diverse canvas for designers to bring attention to thoughts.
The structure of the course will cover the fundamentals of metaphorical illustration.
What we'll do:
Part 1 — Research (30 Mins)
We begin our session by deep diving into a series of pre-selected topics applicable to your business. We will then pair these topics with the appropriate imagery to aid us in building our final idea.
Part 2 — Ideation (1 Hr)
We then move on to translating all ideas to low-fi sketches.
Part 3 — Development (1.5 Hrs)
We will then proceed to the final step of digitizing your concept in Adobe Illustrator, or Affinity Designer software.
Sketch pad + Sharpie Marker, for all preliminary sketches. I will share a digital guide, outlining the best practices of using metaphors in the illustration. Participants must have a working computer or tablet with Adobe Illustrator, or Affinity Designer installed.
Please provide a work area with desks and chairs to facilitate each attendee. Confirm all attendees one week before the workshop. A maximum of 15 attendees.
